DIVERSITY TRAINING: How To Talk To Black People (via ) - eugene, oregon is preparing the city for the olympic trials (which i am inexplicably sad to miss, having lived across the street from and officiated meets at hayward field). there are parts of the eug that i miss, but this is not one of them. you could walk around eugene for weeks and not see a black person (unless you pass the athletes’ dorms). no joke. the trials will be a culture shock for most of eugene, but not to the degree that they need city-ordained diversity training.
this is a result of a town with a seedy racial history overcompensating for racial tensions because of some innate need to create complicated situations of diversity.
