I wrote an FBI thriller called The Bubble Gum Thief, which is being released today. If you’ve enjoyed anything I’ve written on Tumblr, you might enjoy the book. It’s been a long road to publication. How long? The protagonist of my book doesn’t use an iPhone because there was no such thing as an iPhone when I wrote the first draft. Back then, Pluto was a planet, and Twinkies were plentiful. A young Justin Timberlake brought Sexy back. Everyone was doing Borat impressions. Oh, how I long for the wide-eyed innocence of 2006.
It feels appropriate to celebrate my book’s release with all my Tumblr friends. When you work on something like this for so long, you need to take breaks to write about other things, and I came here for those. It’s good to be challenged on intellectual laziness and stubbornness, and I’ve been challenged on both by some really smart people. My interactions here made me a better thinker, and a better writer.
My book is about an anorexic FBI agent named Dagny Gray, and her pursuit of a criminal who starts with the smallest crime possible, but builds toward the biggest crime imaginable. I tried my best to do justice to both characters. In a starred review, Booklist says: ”There are lots of twists and turns here, and just when the case appears to be solved, it isn’t. A gripping plot and a terrific cast leave the reader hoping that this is the first of a series; these characters are too good for just one book.” If this sounds like something you might like, you can buy it here.
