If those Americans weren’t getting PAID for those two hours, though, they wouldn’t be happy, either.

less happy than not having a job? doubtful.

also, salary generally doesn’t include getting overtime pay. for instance, i took my current job expecting to work ~40 hours a week. i’m now averaging 60-70 with no corresponding increase in pay, not to mention additional managerial/oversight responsibilities. sure it’s not ideal and i hope it’s not for the long term, but i still have a job. if i were part of that teacher’s union in rhode island, i’d be sitting at home instead of my office.
